2012 Calendar Changes

The Craig County School Board revised the SY 2011-2012 calendar at their April 17th meeting.
The following adjustments were made:

June 5 and June 6 - High School Exams and Early Dismissal at 12:30 PM
June 6 - Last day of school for students
June 7 - Teacher Workday, all grades due

Graduation will still be on Saturday, June 9.  The SOL testing window will begin on May 14, 2012.

2012 Competence to Excellence Award Recipient
McCleary Elementary School

McCleary Elementary School receives the Virginia Board of Education Competence to Excellence Award. McCleary Elementary was one of 171 schools that "met all state and federal benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and made progress toward the goals of the governor and the board." 

Congratulations to the staff and students of McCleary Elementary for receiving this outstanding award.

Greetings:
As spring quickly approaches, we have many wonderful activities taking place in Craig County Public Schools.  McCleary Elementary School has been recognized by Governor Bob McDonnell for a gCompetence to Excellence Award.h  McCleary Elementary School met all academic requirements as established by the state and federal government for the past two years.  I send my hearty congratulations to faculty, staff, parents, administration, and students for this achievement.  A great job by all!  Thank you!
 
The Craig County School Board heard from principals and department heads on budget request for the 2013 Budget.  The School Board is planning several joint meetings with the Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator, as we plan the budget for the Fiscal Year 2013.  On March 6 at 6:00 pm will be the first joint meeting and it will be held in the Media Center in the high/middle school.  Other dates of importance are:

Spring Break is set for April 6 ? April 13.  Barring any dramatic weather changes, we should look forward to having a very nice spring break.
 
The schools are very busy preparing for spring testing.  This year students will also be experiencing the new online trial test for writing.  All Virginia school districts are required to participate in the field test in writing, as we prepare students for the new edition of the next year's writing test which will require keyboarding skills.
 
I would like to say thank you to the staff for all you do for the children of Craig County Public Schools.

Public Information

PowerSchool "ParentPortal" for SY 2011-2012

For SY 2011-2012, CCPS is making available the PowerSchool ParentPortal functionality. ParentPortal is a tool that is integrated into the PowerSchool Student Information System. It provides parents of students in grades 3-12 access to real-time information including attendance, grades, and school bulletins. Parents will be provided with logins to view their children's current grades and attendance. To obtain a private login, parents are required to stop by the CCHS/MS and/or McCleary school office in person.

To assist parents, a web-based tutorial is available for training purposes. On  the CCPS website, navigate to CCPS Schools, CCPS High School/Middle School OR McCleary Elementary School and find it above the ParentPortal link.


SchoolMessenger Rapid Notification System Update 2011-2012
CCPS will continue to use the SchoolMessenger Rapid Notification System to notify parents and/or guardians of our students of any changes in the school day, or other appropriate announcements. All changes in the school day are also posted on the Craig County Public School website, www.craig.k12.va.us, and updated as required.
If changes to contact telephone number are needed for the SchoolMessenger notification calls, inform your school secretary of the new number. As an additional notification option, to receive a text message from SchoolMessenger, send a text message to 68453, and text the word “Yes” or “Opt In” or “Subscribe” (no quotes).  Any fees or charges are based on your wireless carrier plan. Vaccination Information
 
Parents are reminded that their school-age children are required to have periodic required vaccinations. The Craig County Health Department will reserve appointments, please call for available times and upcoming clinics.

The Craig County School Board meetings generally occur the second Tuesday of the month, at 6:30 PM in the CCHS auditorium.  Attached is a list of the School Board Meeting Dates for 2012, revised at the 1/10/12 School Board Meeting.

CCHS Exam Policy  
The following policy was approved by the School Board at the August 17, 2010 meeting, concerning high school exams.
 "All students at Craig County High School (6-12) will be required to take an End-of-Course/final exam or participate in a culminating activity. The End-of-Course exam or culminating activity will be given on Exam Days set by the school board. Exams will be 15% of a high school student's final grade and 10% of a middle school student's final grade. All students must participate in final exams or culminating activities."
