ENGLISH 9

Prerequisite(s):  English 8 SOL Test: None

Course Description: In English 9, students will study those skills set forth in Virginia’s Standards of Learning for the ninth grade.  Students will develop the reading, writing, and research skills necessary to make the transition to post-secondary education and the workforce.  This course does not prepare students for Advanced Placement English or Dual Enrollment English.

ENGLISH 10

Prerequisite(s):  English 9 SOL Test: Writing

Course Description:  The intent of English 10 is to help students develop the reading, writing, and research skills necessary to make the transition to post-secondary education and the workforce.  Students will study those skills set forth in Virginia’s Standards of Learning for the tenth grade.  To refine fundamental research skills, students will complete research papers or projects.  This course does not prepare students for Advanced Placement English or Dual Enrollment English.

ENGLISH 11

Prerequisite(s):  English 10 SOL Test: EOC Reading

Course Description:  Students will study those skills set forth in Virginia’s Standards of Learning for the eleventh grade.  The student will develop the skills to present and analyze persuasive oral presentations, write a variety of reports, and study American literature.  This course does not prepare students for Advanced Placement English or Dual Enrollment English.

ENGLISH 12

Course Description:  Students in English 12 will develop skills in oral communication, reading, writing, and research as set forth by the Virginia Standards of Learning to prepare for success in the workplace, a technical school, or two-year college.
