Course Description:  World History and Geography I focuses on the historical development of people, places, and patterns of life from ancient times until about 1500 A.D.  Students will study the origins of much of our heritage using texts, maps, pictures, stories, diagrams, and charts.  Chronological, inquiry/research and technological skills will be emphasized.

Course Description:  World History and Geography I focuses on the historical development of people, places, and patterns of life from 1500  A.D.  to  the  present  with an emphasis  on  Western  Europe.    Geographic  influences  on  history  will  continue  to  be  explored,  but increasing attention will be given to political boundaries that developed with the evolution of nation-states.  The people and events of the nineteenth  and  twentieth  centuries  will  be  emphasized  for  their  strong  connections  to  contemporary  issues.   Students will  engage  in chronological thinking, historical comprehension, and historical analysis.

Course Description:  U.S. History covers the course of American history from the Colonial era to the present.

VIRGINIA AND U.S. GOVERNMENT

Prerequisite(s):  None

Course Description:  U.S. Government is focused upon the structures and functions of American government at the national, state, and local levels.  Students will be required to complete independent projects and the course will supplement the text with a variety of primary and secondary source readings.
